Add A Bit of Excitement To Your Soap Making Activity

  • Article by Jen Hopkins

Soaps are among the things that we use every single day. Since soap making has been recognized as a fun activity, this is something which people have been doing these days. Making soap from scratch is being enjoyed by a lot of people because it allows them to choose what to include in their soaps. Unlike for the soaps which are sold in the groceries, handmade soaps have more variety. Soap making gives you the freedom to put anything that you want in your soaps.

Soap making seems like a complicated hobby but it is not. It only requires you to mix all the ingredients and your soap will be ready in a few minutes. Soap making only makes use of a few basic ingredients such as oils, lye, water and the soap base. Additives can also be added for additional color and the fragrance of the soaps. It is up to you what you want to put in your soaps.

Soap preservatives actually exist. In soap making, these are needed each time. These prevent the soaps from spoilage as well as being damages. As preservatives are added, soaps can be stored for a longer period of time. This increases shelf life so these soaps can still be used after a long time. Some preservatives are vitamin A, C and E. A good source of these vitamins is actually avocado. Avocado is a popular additive in soap making because of its ability to moisturize the skin very well.

Soaps are used for its cleansing property. The addition of grape seed oil actually enhances this. Grape seed oil is known as an active astringent which is commonly used in soap making. This cleans within the pores, making sure that dirt is removed in every one of them. Soaps with this are actually used to remove acne and other skin conditions. Grape seed oil is easily absorbed by the skin, allowing it to work against pimples immediately.

Wheat germ oil is commonly used for soap making because of its dual purpose. It can moisturize the skin when used and at the same time, it is a very effective antioxidant. Wheat germ oil has vitamin E that can provide a solution for dry skin. For soaps that work against stretch marks and scars on the skin, use wheat germ oil in your soaps when soap making.

Soap making requires you to be creative. With so many ingredients that are used for this, you will never get tired of your choices. As long as you want to experiment, you can. Just make sure that you know what you are adding to your own soaps. You will definitely enjoy soap making.

    Cream Soap Making-Absolute Luxury

  • Article by Suzy Sutherland

There is no scarcity in the market for skincare products. Ever since the day we first became conscious of personal hygiene and beauty, we have tried and discarded quite a few. Many of us have been lucky enough (till now) to escape from skin rashes and allergies, but these are not the only reasons for discarding many products. Some are too expensive while others leave absolutely no impression on the skin positive or negative. So we keep trying various products in an (often vain) attempt to find one that suits our pocketbook and skin type. Rather like conducting experiments on a guinea pig, right? The best alternative is to make all personal skincare products at home.

Cream soaps are a favorite with men and women alike. They have a whipped cream feeling when applied on the skin, which gives a whole new meaning to the mundane activity of taking a bath. Most users enjoy the sense of luxurious relaxation that results from the use of cream soaps. Depending on the manner in which they are made, cream soaps can be semi-liquid or stiff or even salve like. And the best thing about them is that they can actually be made at home.

Cream soap making is an easy and fun thing to do in your spare time. The associated benefits are obvious. Homemade soaps ensure you are in absolute control of what you apply on your body. For the discerning soap user, this means freedom from rashes, itching, dryness and similar discomforts. No more spending money on products that cause more harm than good. Such soaps are custom-made for your skin, thus signifying an end to your search for the ultimate skincare solution.

The ingredients used in cream soap making can be bought from an organic foods store or a reputed natural beauty shop. There are even retailers who sell such stuff as scientific supplies. The best thing about cream soap making at home is that you can include whatever oils or extracts you like to give your favorite fragrance to the soap. The basic recipe involves melting several oils like coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil (very small amounts) with unrefined shea butter and stearic acid. Borax is also a major component which is dissolved with traces of Potassium Hydroxide and Sodium Hydroxide in hot water. While combining the two mixtures (oils and water), the temperature of oils must be around 150 degrees and water about 120 degrees, as the final step, glycerin is added.

The soap mixture can be cured (for about two weeks), cooked in a double boiler or even refrigerated according to your preference. If you want to give vent to your creative streak, use a piping bag to apply different colors to the soap (the base color is always white). Pastel colored soaps, in particular, look very elegant. Another interesting option is to use different molds to get soaps of various shapes and sizes. According to many experienced soap makers, silicon molds work best.

Fats used in cream soap making can be of either vegetable or animal origin. Such soaps float in water; thus bath time can be fun filled for both kids and adults. It is all about pampering your skin, and the results include glowing skin and several admiring/envious looks.
