Soap can be found in different forms. Aside from the regular bar soap, it can also be found in liquid form. It is needed whenever we need to clean our bodies when we shower as it can remove dirt and oils that tend to build up on the skin. In today’s times, liquid soap has gained popularity and have replaced the regular bar soap. But with the many designs and properties that can be added to bar soaps, they are also regaining their popularity. A lot of people may think that soap making is hard and that you would require a factory to make soap. In contrast to this, making soap is a very easy process that you can do right at your own home. Even small children can make soap as long as they are supervised by adults. There are two methods of soap making, you can use either one depending on your own preference and ingredients. The first method is called the hot process, wherein you will need to heat your soap mixture during the entire process. The cold process on the other hand, uses the same ingredients but heating of your mixture is not needed. The first method is generally used if the lye that you are going to use is impure and there is no way for you to measure its exact amount. The main ingredients that you will need to make soap are just lye and oil. With these two ingredients, you will already be able to make the most basic type of soap, without much special properties. Lye will need to be dissolved in water and continuously mixed. Once it has fully dissolved, the oil can then be added and the two substances will undergo a process called saponification. This whole process will require heating in the hot method, but the heat is not needed for the cold method. Once a homogenous mixture with condensed milk consistency has been achieved, it can then be poured into molds for them to cool. This would take about 5 hours. Different molds may be used to make different designs of soap. Adding dye before pouring the mixture onto molds may also be done to give your soap the color that you prefer. The hardened soap can then be taken out of their molds and further designs can still be added using knives. Fragrant oils and lotions can be added to give your soap the properties that you like. Others may even use herbal leaves to help give their soap a more therapeutic effect. In soap making, you should also consider what you want to do with the finished product. If you prefer to display your soap and not use it for cleaning yourself, you may want to use a type of oil that will give your soap a hard and sturdy property. On the other hand, if you plan to use it for showering, you may want to use olive oil and coconut oil to give your soap a mild quality with lathering properties. Regular soap may be losing its popularity but it is certainly not a thing of the past. With the many designs and creative ways that you can change and alter the properties of bar soap, you will definitely have fun creating and designing your own soaps.
